Homecoming of Terror - Review

You must be wondering what a review of an episode of House of Cards is doing on a legal blog like this one. Well, like everyone else, I too am an ‘Underwood nuts’ and would be remiss in my duties as a lawyer if I didn’t give my fellow lawyers who are buried under tons of paperwork a brief review of the premier episode of Season 5.
Just to remind you guys, season 4 ended with Frank looking at the audience and saying ‘We make the terror.’ The episode begins with Claire making a Public Announcement asking citizens of USA to be on the watch for suspicious activities.
*Few Spoilers Ahead*
You remember that episode where Frank walks into a session of Congress and gets a bill passed like a boss? Well, hold onto your seat because Frank is standing before Congress again, but this time to demand that Congress approve a formal declaration of war between USA and ICO on the ground that ICO is infiltrating the country.
I don’t need to tell you guys (since you’ve obviously guessed by now) that Frank and Claire have an ulterior motive for taking such drastic measures. Safety is not as important as striking fear in the hearts of the American people.
You probably don’t remember Joshua Matterson who appeared in the last two episodes of season 4. This insignificant character plays a key role in the premiere of season 5. I’m not going to spoil too many things for the reader by revealing too much about Joshua’s fate.
As always, Kevin Spacey steals the show. He makes the viewer believe that they are in a world where Frank Underwood is President. (Still better than Trump). Many thought what would happen to Spacey’s character after season 2. What could possibly come after already being President? The makers of the show have still done a great job making it look like remaining President is far more difficult than becoming President.
There are a few aspects that resemble current affairs Frank calls for a travel ban, which receives much opposition.
All in all season 5 is off to a good start. With elections just around the corner, the tension is rising and the stakes have never been higher. Although we are yet to see Frank’s past crimes, murders and shady activities ever see the light of day and come to bite him. Do watch S05E01 on Zee Cafe, India on 3rd June 2017 at 5 p.m.
My rating: 4.8/5
